At a White House event honouring his contribution to music, McCartney dedicated a rendition of the Beatles' love ballad "Michelle" to the US President Barack Obama's wife, Michelle.
He said he'd been "itching" to perform it at the White House, and apologized to the President in advance. He was later presented Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, awarded by the Library of Congress.
"I don't think there could be anything more special than to play here," The Telegraph quoted him as saying, offering to make it a regular gig.
"Lunchtimes, we could come around," he added. "We're cheap."
McCartney praised Obama saying, "You have billions of us who are rooting for you and we know you are going to come through."
